Set in the Deep South in 1918 amidst the Spanish Flu, The Wedding Band tells the story of two young lovers in an illegal interracial relationship. Julia, a black seamstress, and Herman, a white baker, meet and begin a relationship. They face intense prejudice and eventually are forced apart due to racism, anti-miscegenation laws, and illness. This play shows how love knows no societal barriers, and even amidst sickness and war people can find one another even for a short time.
