Minority Voices in Theater:

A Youth Friendly Anthology in Progress

Endlings by Celine Song

Endlings is a heartfelt and raw play that shows the parallels between a group of three Korean women who are the last of their profession, and a Korean-Canadian playwright living in Manhattan struggling to pin down “authentic” identity. This play opens on a trio of haenyeos, or sea women, who dive down to the sea floor to harvest food. They are the last of this ancient profession with no heirs to pass the torch to. On the other side of the world, a writer grapples with her identity and what is “authentic”. This play parallels the pressures of cultural heritage, identity, and breaking free from expectations.
