A compelling narrative about the conflict between tradition and modernity, Pure Native is set on the Haudenosaunee reservation as Brewster returns to his home with hope of restoration. On the reservation, things haven’t been going well, but Brewster believes that a bottled water factory can turn things around in the job sector and beyond. But, when Brewster encounters his old girlfriend, Connie, a problem emerges. She believes that Brewster’s idea goes against the very ideals of the Haudenosaunee, and that he is “self-colonizing”. As they both commit to their causes, the audience can only wonder who will win, with Ramirez’s script masterfully steering away the hero and villain binary.
